Also Known as Bruxism
Bruxism is the term given to tooth grinding and clenching. These actions may happen while an individual is awake but mostly occurs during sleep.
At Bluebird Dental, out dentists carefully evaluate these symptoms and may suggest treatment by a combination of therapies. A bite guard, known as an occlusal splint, for night time wear is a common relief from bruxism.
Bruxism can lead to many issues when looking at bite problems and assessing the function of your jaw joints and muscles. Problems that may occur include:
- Tooth sensitivity and pain
- Clicking or grating sounds in the jaw joints
- Headaches
- Facial, neck, shoulder or back pain
- Pain or tenderness in and around the jaw joints especially upon waking
- Broken or loose fillings
