Frequently Asked Questions
Our team at Bluebird Dental ensures first-time visitors to our clinic will have a relaxed, pleasant and informative experience. From general advice and minor treatments to orthodontics, the application of porcelain veneers and our emergency dentistry services, we aim to ensure all new patients know exactly what to expect at their initial appointment.
Your dentist will have a chat with you about exactly what you want for your teeth. We then assess the overall health and appearance of your mouth. Depending on what you require for the replacement of old fillings, orthodontics, porcelain veneers and other procedures, we may then do some of the following:
• Use a miniature camera to look at teeth and fillings in magnified detail.
• Use a specialised laser to detect cavities.
• Take x-rays to check in places that can be missed, i.e. between teeth and under fillings.
• Take photographs of your smile to record the colour and shade of your teeth.
From these, we can discuss any cosmetic concerns you may have. Many cosmetic treatments, including porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, smile makeovers and orthodontics, greatly benefit from this step.
• Discuss your treatment options and the costs involved.
• A general cleaning of your teeth and gums by our gentle and friendly dental hygienist Kim may be performed if time allows. General cleaning is ideal for patients undertaking orthodontic treatment, or simply for people seeking a thorough and precise mouth clean. A new patient consultation generally takes around an hour.

We treat children as young as 18 months and believe it is important for kids to have a great start to their dental health in order to avoid problems later in life.
Our dental therapist, Kim Om, has specifically trained to look after children and their dental needs. He also teaches kids the importance of and best ways of cleaning their teeth. Kim can also use products to harden the enamel on children’s teeth, protecting them from decay, as well as suggest the best treatments to use at home.
Relax, you’re in safe hands. At Bluebird Dental we understand that for some people visiting the dentist can be a scary prospect. However, treating anxious patients is our specialty. Whether you’re having a general check-up, porcelain veneers applied, orthodontics or using our emergency dentistry services, we will ensure every step is taken to calm and relax you. We use very effective anaesthetics and make sure the time is taken to ensure treatment is pain free. For extremely nervous patients undertaking procedures such as orthodontics, even if you haven’t been to the dentist for years, or porcelain veneers, we offer Penthrox, a self-administered calming anaesthetic, and prescribe calming tablets which can be taken before an appointment. The option of watching movies or listening to music during orthodontics, porcelain veneer applications or general treatment is available to every patient.

If cavities are detected early enough, we won’t have to use needles and there will be no pain involved in fixing your teeth. We use a dental laser (Diagnodent) which can detect cavities before they can be seen by our dentist’s eye. Cavities can therefore be treated earlier with smaller fillings that require less time in the chair. When anaesthetic is required, the option The Wand computer delivery system is available. The Wand eliminates the need for conventional syringes and is virtually pain free, making it the preferred option for people who don’t like the idea of needles
