Early Intervention Orthodontics
Early Intervention Orthodontics for children, involves treatment provided when baby teeth are still present, usually between the ages of 3-10 years old. It is a preventative approach to orthodontics in an attempt to reduce the chances of issues from arising. Treatment such as Myomunchee, Myobrace and myofunctional exercises during jaw development can have a positive effect early on.
It is no longer necessary to wait for adult teeth to come through in order to prevent crooked teeth and correct bite, now with early intervention orthodontics, these conditions can be treated much earlier. Early intervention orthodontics is sometimes known as phase 1 orthodontics, at Bluebird Dental, our dentists are experienced in providing orthodontic treatment to children taking steps to carefully assess teeth and jaw to ensure an effective treatment plan is in place.
Using the techniques of early intervention orthodontics, we are able to guide your child’s jaw into its optimal position thus creating more space for adult teeth to appear while also preventing bite issues like overbite, underbite, open bite and crossbite. The teeth and jaw in younger children are softer and more flexible/malleable so an effective result can be achieved using the appropriate orthodontic tools.
